Reverse Garbage

Reverse Garbage is an great shop in West End which promotes recycling by selling what would otherwise be thrown out. This is the place to get materials for all kinds of craft, woodworking, decorating, sewing, & other projects at low low prices. The range of stuff is amazing - wood, doors, framing, plastic containers, chocolate moulds, material, magnets, glass, mirrors, ceramic tiles, string, metal, plastic, posters, stickers, cardboard… all sorts of things with new stock constantly coming in. There’s a monthly newsletter you can subscribe to on their web site which will alert you to all the latest groovy things.

Lately they’ve added craft kits for kids, ranging in price from $4 to $10 , for things such as plastic aprons, fridge magnets or wood block pictures. These are great for class projects at school as well as to keep the kids busy during the holidays.

There’s also a gift store which shows the wide array of items that can be made from the stock. My favourite item is the notebooks made from 5.25″ floppy disks (yes I’m a geek).

Highlights from my most recent trip there on Saturday include chocolate moulds (can also be used for soap or plaster of paris) for $1 each, rolls of fabric at $3/m, bags of co-ordinated fabric pieces for 50 c - $1 (perfect for quilting or dolls clothes), fridge magnets at 10c each and plastic containers for $3/kg (these would be gorgeous to put hand-made soaps or sweets in for Christmas) . Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to have a proper look around, which may have been a good thing as I have a tendency to bring too much home!
